Eleven volunteers braved the cold to help the food bank

Food Bank Service Project a Success!

It was 8:30 am on April 28th, temperatures were in the 30's. Eleven people from Celebration singles gathered in front of UPMC Mercy hospital on the South Side and awaited further direction from the volunteer coordinators. There were close to a hundred volunteers, coming from all around the Pittsburgh area, even some college students from Slippery Rock University. At first, we feared that there were too many volunteers, but soon we discovered there was plenty to do for everyone. Some of us were runners. They helped the clients by putting their food on dollys and wheeling the boxes to their cars. Some of us worked behind the tables, by passing out food or breaking down boxes, and one of us collected tickets from the nearly 700 clients who received food. Afterwards, eight of us continued on to enjoy some lunch and fellowship at Pizzeria Uno, at the Waterfront.
